Helen Dalton MP INDEPENDENT MEMBER FOR MURRAY PARL MEN NSW The campaign to create the new Western Riverinal Local Health District is gaining momentum thanks to your very strong public support. My office is receiving completed petitions from across the electorate every day, showing that our community believes we must be in charge of our own health services. Doctors and other medical professionals also overwhelmingly support a break away from the Murrumbidgee Local Health District in order to create the new Western Riverina Local Health District. That's why the doctors from Griffith Base Hospital have been happy to write open letters to the Government calling for this creation of our new region. It's also why our health professionals have attended, and spoken at our rallies in support of the move. Unfortunately, to date, Griffith City Council is still sitting on the fence, and giving no clear indication of where they stand on the issue. Council claims it's still trying to gauge public opinion, but I'm not holding my breath for their findings because their research of consists of a simplistic, three-question, online survey. If they want to know what people think, perhaps they should come to the rallies, or just speak to any of us locals. A new Western Riverina Local Health District will also attract more doctors and health care professionals to Murray because our health services will finally be managed properly. The Wagga-based Murrumbidgee Local Health District has had far too much control over Murray, and has been neglecting the Western Riverina for way too long. And don't forget that the MLHD isn't independent. It's effectively run by the State Government. So it only opposes the new Western Riverina Health District because the State Government has told it to. The evidence clearly shows that our rural services will improve immensely when key decisions are made by our community. That is exactly what the new Western Riverina Local Health District will achieve. We need to run our own Local Health District. We are literally fighting for our lives, and for our health.
