Helen Dalton MP INDEPENDENT MEMBER FOR MURRAY Federal Water Minister Tanya Plibersek has begun her relentless buyback of water used for farming each year from the Murray-Darling Basin. It comes at a cost to the taxpayer of $205M for just 26GL a year. It is unacceptable that water that should be used for farming and ensuring our food security is being flushed out to sea in South Australia. Satisfying the Greens in South Australia to support the fake Lower Lakes and buy votes for the Albanese government is disgraceful. At the time of writing this article, the recovery cost an average of $8000/ML with some purchases estimated at over 20% above market rates. It would seem that the Federal Minister for Water, Tanya Plibersek, has encountered a water recovery shortfall of a little under 50%. Considering this shortfall, it is clear that farmers are not willing sellers. Helen Dalton MP for Murray Authorised by Helen Dalton MP, Funded using Parliamentary Entitlements. Helen Dalton MP for Murray I once again urge Premier Chris Minns, Minister for Water Rose Jackson and Minister for the Environment Penny Sharpe to look at the science and stand up to the Commonwealth and deny them access to NSW irrigation water. The Ministers need to understand the volume of water to be recovered cannot physically be delivered to South Australia. In trying to deliver this volume, the environment will be further damaged by the limitations of constraints.
