Helen Dalton MP INDEPENDENT MEMBER FOR MURRAY AS YOUR LOCAL MP HERE IS MY MONTHLY NEWS UPDATE. The Premier, Chris Minns, visited the electorate this month with Minister for Agriculture, Tara Moriarty. It was a great opportunity to showcase rural industries and agriculture in the region. It also gave me a chance to personally discuss the challenges we face and what we need to succeed. Stopping the buyback of 450GL of water from Southern Basin irrigation communities remain a top priority for me. I urged the Premier to stand up to the Federal government and Federal Minister for Water and the Environment, Tanya Plibersek, and support my Transfer of Water Bill 2023. This will prevent the transfer of NSW water to the Federal Government and protect irrigation communities from devastation. This Bill gives NSW the same protections that the Victorian Government has given to the Victorian people. Their government has already blocked the purchase of Victorian water by the Federal Government, and NSW rural communities need that same protection from the NSW government. I also attended the annual NSW farmers' federation conference in Sydney, hosting a breakfast with the Minister for Agriculture Tara Moriarty and some delegates from the electorate. The theme this year was Feeding the Future. It was a great opportunity for NSW food and fibre producers, agribusiness professionals and key industry stakeholders to share their insights on our state's vital $23 billion agricultural industry. I also took Minister for Water, Rose Jackson to the Barmah Choke, showing her first hand the PRESSING issues facing the Murray River. City politicians need to see the riverbank subsidence, the platypus and kingfisher habitat destruction and permanent forest flooding that is destroying our river systems. After seeing the problems, it's harder for city them to ignore these problems. And finally, The Rankins Springs Centenary is fast. approaching with the official opening Friday the 15th of September. The celebrations will continue across the weekend and the organisers have planned an action packed itinerary. I can't wait to see er e everyone there.
